Quel bonheur d’avoir retrouvé Amsterdam le temps d’un grand weekend… L’expérience ADE fût riche en émotion et en soundsystem. L’aventure commence jeudi matin à Gare du Nord où nous embarquons à bord du Thalys, direction Amsterdam. Après avoir récupéré les accréditations et les différents goodies (sac, t-shirt, map, magazines, bouchons, nous avons été vraiment gâtés ! Merci aux organisateurs !) nous prenons le chemin de notre petit appartement pour y déposer les bagages. Il est maintenant temps de commencer l’aventure ! Tous les bâtiments qui accueillent des évènements ADE sont indiqués par de grands drapeaux aux couleurs de l’ADE. Encore une fois l’organisation nous bluffe !
Première étape pour commencer en douceur, une conférence avec Detroit Swindle puis de belles démonstrations de leur technique. Vient le temps de se rendre dans le sous-sol d’un magasin branché de la ville pour écouter de jeunes DJ’s talentueux autour d’une (ou plus si affinité) bière et d’un shot de Jaggermaster. On apprécie vraiment l’accueil et la manière dont on s’occupe de nous.
À 19h le rendez-vous est fixé au Melkweg pour un concert de Gramatik. On a pas vraiment l’occasion de le voir en France donc c’était une chance à saisir ! Arrivée à 19h nous comprenons vite que le concert de Gramatik commence seulement à 20h30, mais l’erreur est humaine et la première partie était assurée par The Geek x Vrv, groupe français aux allures de C2C qui a mis le feu ! On a également adoré la salle, mignonne, intimiste, avec la possibilité d’assister au concert depuis le balcon. Un soundsystem très bien réglé nous a permis d’être vraiment transporté par la prestation de Gramatik qui a sû passer par tout types de styles musicaux. On notera une légère déception sur la dernière demi-heure où la musique déviait vers de l’EDM, pas vraiment notre tasse de thé !
Deuxième étape, direction la Warehouse Elementenstraat. Un peu excentré, cette Warehouse de 2 salles nous plaît dès les premières foulées sur la piste de danse. Des casiers à la place des vestiaires, un fumoir très spacieux, des goodies offerts (encore gâtés !), très bonne organisation ! On notera la décoration de la « petite » salle faite de cagette en bois, original ! Au programme Apollonia, Djebali et Pan-Pot pour terminer l’affaire ! Le set d’Apollonia nous a scotché, les trois compères nous ont passé bombes sur bombes, on a pas décollé pendant les 3 heures. Ils ont donc réussi à conserver une ambiance électrique jusqu’à l’arrivée des deux génies de Pan-Pot. Une belle soirée qui nous met dans le bain pour un weekend qui promet d’être épique !
Vendredi, place aux visites de la Venise du Nord, un petit tour par un coffee shop, puis il est déjà l’heure de retourner au Melkweg pour un concert de David August.
La petite salle de nouveau sold out propose un son de qualité et grâce au balcon nous avons assisté au concert dans des conditions agréables. David August a proposé plusieurs genres musicaux, de la house d’ambiance à quelques notes plus entrainantes. Plus proche de l’expérience musicale que du concert dansant, on a regretté le bruit incessant des conversations des auditeurs. Le show regroupe David August et trois partenaires musicaux : un chanteur – percussionniste et 2 musiciens instrumentaux dont un guitariste. Cet ensemble apporte des touches de notes différentes qui donnent du relief à la prestation. Ce live sensible nous a montré la largeur du répertoire de David August, très agréable pour une soirée détente.
Il est maintenant temps de prendre le chemin de notre évènement nocturne, la soirée Enter. Richie Hawtin n’a pas fait les choses à moitié pour sa soirée Enter au Médiahaven. On compte trois scènes et les grands noms du label Minus comme Hito, Julian Jeweil ou encore Matador. On retrouve également Dubfire, Hot Since 82, de quoi bien s’amuser ! Le sous-sol/parking est aménagé en scène sombre et les bass du label Minus résonne sans concession. Julian Jeweil et Fabio Florido nous ont montré qu’ils avaient l’énergie et la technique pour faire partie du cercle fermé des acolytes de Richie. Hot Since 82 a lui aussi mis énormément de puissance dans son DJ set. On s’attendait à ce qu’il colle davantage au style de ses productions, mais apparemment le mot d’ordre de cette soirée était d’envoyer tout le monde sur la planète Rave party.
Dubfire a très bien préparé le terrain pour Mr Hawtin dans la salle principale. Cette dernière nous a bluffé avec son plafond de dix mètres de haut et une scénographie digne des plus grands événements. Une structure de métal en forme de tourbillon qui illumine l’ensemble de la salle nous en met plein la vue. Richie Hawtin montre qu’il est le patron en remplissant la salle après seulement quelques tracks. C’est parti pour 2h30 de set par papa Hawtin, on a même eu le droit à 30 minutes supplémentaires ! C’était du très bon boulot, on en attendait pas moins car tous ses amis étaient là, il fallait qu’il sorte le grand jeu !
Le samedi est chargé avec le Dockyard Festival de 11h à 23h sur le port d’Amsterdam et la soirée Audio Obscure au Muziekgebouw. Une navette fluviale spécialement mise en place pour le festival nous prend au niveau de Centraal Station pour nous emmener sur le lieu du festival, un énorme espace avec 5 scènes couvertes par des chapiteaux chauffés. Là encore les casiers nous permettent de nous mettre à l’aise rapidement. L’ambiance est folle et les roumains de [a:pria:r] nous font comme d’habitude une très grande impression. Sans aucun doute notre représentation préférée du festival Dockyard. Paul Ritch, Truncate et Sam Paganini ont également fait chauffer les enceintes. Encore un superbe moment de musique entre festival lovers. Les jambes commencent à faiblir après ces jours effrénés de danse dans des endroits plus incroyable les uns que les autres. Mais il est temps de se rendre à la dernière étape, et pas des moindres, la soirée Audio Obscura.
Cette dernière salle nous ferait presque oublier toutes les autres… Un bâtiment géant qui accueille d’habitude des concerts de musique classique avec de grandes baies vitrées qui nous offrent une vue imprenable sur Amsterdam. Les quatre scènes sont parfaitement placées sur plusieurs étages et nous permettent de profiter entièrement du lieu en passant d’une ambiance à une autre sans aucune confrontation sonore. L’ambiance est folle et nous commençons à prendre nos marques dans les différentes salles, Le Loft nous comble de bonheur avec encore un esprit très Rave Party et des sets très dark de Woo York et Clark. Dans la salle Obscura (scène principale), le système son est d’une très grande qualité. Recondite met la barre très haut comme d’habitude, grande efficacité avec des sonorités qui lui sont propres. Tale of Us ferme la marche en nous envoyant sur Pluton.
Autant vous dire que cette dernière soirée fût pour notre duo, sans hésitation la plus incroyable, de par la salle, la qualité du son et la puissance des sets. Un évènement immanquable durant l’ADE (Sold Out en avance évidemment).
Pour conclure, l’ADE nous aura vraiment impressionné par son format totalement différent des formats classiques du genre comme le Dekmantel ou le Weather Festival. ADE est vraiment un évènement d’une envergure phénoménal qui plonge toute la ville d’Amsterdam dans une atmosphère de fête pendant cinq jours. Avec ses line-up éclectiques et toutes sortes de personnes différents, nous avons été comblé du début jusqu’à la fin. D’autant plus que les Hollandais sont vraiment des gens adorables avec qui il est toujours agréable de s’éclater. Nous pouvons juste vous conseiller très fortement de vous rendre à Amsterdam l’an prochain pour ce festival unique en son genre. Nous souhaitons également remercier profondément les organisateurs pour leur accueil incroyable et leur capacité à gérer un évènement aussi gigantesque.

It was really blissful to rediscover Amsterdam during one more weekend. The ADE’s experience was kind of magic and rich in soundsystem. The adventure began thursday morning at Gare du Nord where we board in the Thalys, next stop : Amsterdam. After we took back the accreditations and several goodies (bag, t-shirt, map, magazines, earplugs, we were clearly spoilt ! Thank you to the organizers !) we took the way to our apartment to drop off our luggages. It’s time to begin the adventure ! All the buildings which host an ADE event are indicate by big ADE flag, with the beautiful black and yellow ADE colors. Again, the organization impressed us !
First stop to have a smooth beginning, a Detroit Swindle’s meeting and some wonderful skills’ demonstration. Time to go in the basement of a trendy shop to listen to young talented dj with some free beers and Jaggermaster shot. We really liked the welcome and the way people took care of us.
At 7p.m, the appointment was fixed at the Melkweg for the Gramatik’s concert. We don’t have the chance to see him often in France so we had to take the shot ! The first part of the show was led by The Geek x Vrv, a french band with a C2C’s music and clothes style which put us on fire ! The place was really nice, cute with an intimate atmosphere. We spent a part of the show on the balcony, where we had a great point of view on the crowd and on Gramatik as well. The sound system was really nice adjusted so we had a really great time when Gramatik transport us with a lot of different kind of music. We just have to notice the last half hour was a bit disappointing because the music tend to some EDM style, not really our cup of tea.
Second stop, the Elementenstraat Warehouse. It was a bit far from the Amsterdam’s center but the Warehouse pleased us few minutes after we were inside. There was 2 stages in 2 different room, some lockers instead of a cloakroom, a big smoaker room with a good view on the main stage, some goodies (We are again spoilt) and a really good organisation. We notice a really weird decoration in the second stage with crates fix on the wall, oddball ! The line-up is quite amazing with Apollonia, Djebali and Pan-Pot to close the business. The Apollonia’s set stuck us on the dancefloor, the mates played their best tracks during 3 hours. That was so incredible that we just keep dancing without looking one time our watch. They succeed in keeping the atmosphere on the top before leaving the dj booth to the genius Pan-Pot. That was a really nice party to launch our big weekend ! We were ready for three more amazing days.
On friday we made some interesting visit in the « Venise of the North », of course a stop in a coffee shop to try some of the best product in Nederland (Obviously after Cheese). And after it was already time to come back to the Melkweg (we really loved this place) to see the David August performance.
The tiny place was again sold out, the soundsystem is still really good and the balcony still the best place to have a great point of view of the show. David August offered us different kind of music, Ambient House to some great lively beats. It was more close to a music experience than a real dancing show. We just regret one thing, people can’t stop chatting to each other, a weird habit during a concert ! We had some great surprise during the concert, 3 different music partners came to assist David during his show, one singer/percussionist, and two more guys including a guitarist. The whole thing gave some really interesting sounds which gave some originality to the performance. We saw the wide music repertory that David August can offer, a really blissful and smoothy evening.
It’s now time to go back on the road in order to enjoy another great party in Amsterdam. Our next stop is the Richie Hawtin project, ENTER•. We have to admit, he made the job really properly ! Again some lockers are available, a program with a map (Yes the place was quite big !). The Mediahaven is a really beautiful place, they success to arrange 3 stages, each had a different spirit and we loved that. Some great names were there to represent the Minus label like Hito, Julian Jeweil and Matador. We also have some great artists like Dubfire, Hot Since 82, and of course the legendary Richie Hawtin. The basement was dedicated to the Minus project in a gloomy parking convert in a lovely stage. The well-known bass of the Minus label resonate without any concession. Julian Jeweil and Fabio Florido showed us the energy and technics to prove their place among the Richie team. Hot since 82 was playing on the stage, he made a really good performance, something really deep and strong. We thought he will make something more similar to his production, but obviously the watchword was to send us all on the Rave Party planet !
Dubfire got the room ready for Mr Hawtin in the main stage. This amazing performance, took place in a 10 meters high selling, and a scenic treatment worthy of the best events. A metal structure, whirl shaped enlightened the whole room, and blew us away.
Richie Hawtin showed its talent feeling up the room after only a few tracks. Game on, for 2H30 minutes of a king Hawtin set, we also had the pleasure to get 30 extra minutes. What a great job it was, we expected no less from him considering the presence of all his friends, he had to bring his “A” game.
Saturday was a busy day, with the Dockyard festival from 11am to 23pm on the Amsterdam port, and the Audio Obscure party at Muziekgebouw, a special shuttle set for the festival took us at the central station and brought us to the festival, a gigantic place with 5 covered, and heathen scenes. Right at the entrance some lockers allowed us to get comfy right away. The ambiance is sick, and the Romanians from [a:pria:r] are delivering like they always do, the best performance of the festival, no doubt.
Paul Ritch, Truncate and Sam Paganini were also present, to heat up the speakers, once again a great musical moment for all the festival lovers. Legs are starting to fail, after those crazy dancing days in all of those amazing places, but it is now time to get to the last, but least, step of our journey, the Audio Obscura party.
This last event could almost made us forget about the others, a gigantic building usually welcoming classical music concert, with picture windows offering an unobstructed view of Amsterdam. The 4 stages are perfectly set in different level, giving the audience the opportunity to go from one ambiance to the other without any sound confrontation. The ambiance is sick, and we are starting to get our marks in the different rooms, the loft is filling us up with happiness with its Rave party spirit and its dark sets cooked by Woo York and Clark. The Obsura room (main stage) is offering a high quality sound system. Recondite is setting the bar up high like usual with efficiency and particular sonorities. Tale of us closes the deal sending us on Pluton.
We have to admit this last party was clearly the best for the two of us, without any hesitation the most incredible. The place, the soudsystem’s quality, and the djs’ performance were really amazing. Obviously the unmissable event of ADE (Sold Out in advance of course)
To conclude, ADE is a really different festival if you compare it to some classic one like Dekmantel, Weather, and so on… ADE is something really bigger, with eclectic line up in order to have a lot of different kind of people, and we loved that. Moreover, Dutch people are really nice and it’s always a real pleasure to party all together. We can just deeply advise you to discover this festival. We had a really great time and we want to thank again the organizers because it’s really difficult to manage so many events and artists.
