Après 5 ans d’existence les deux djs de Homework sillonnent l’Europe pour une tournée sans fin. Ils font vibrer le Studio 80 dans leur ville d’origine Amsterdam, le Panoramabar de Berlin ou encore Lyon ce samedi 19 janvier 2013. Leurs dates s’enchainent et une tournée infinie s’en libère.
Tom Waist et Zip Stolk sont les petits protégés ou plutôt la grande rencontre du fondateur d’Exploited Records Jan Simon Spielberger aka DJ Shir Khan. Celui-ci avoue avec enthousiasme que le duo lui a permis d’ouvrir de nouvelles portes pour le développement de son label qu’il souhaitait détacher de la musique électro minimale du moment, trop inscrit dans les clubs européens selon lui.
Si les hollandais sont si pointus et contaminés d’un rare éclectisme et, c’est parce qu’ils ont tous deux un background chez le disquaire Concerto d’Amsterdam. Difficile de les positionner musicalement tant ils gravitent entre dance music, house et électro.
Ils slaloment ainsi entre le label Made to play de Jesse Rose, celui de Riva Starr’s Snatch! et plus récemment la maison british 2020 Vision chez qui ils ont sorti Confession EP avec trois titres très Deep tonifié par des samples et vocales house. Homework tient tout de même à conserver un pied-à-terre chez Exploited et parvient également à sortir des remixes qui font leurs preuves notamment chez Dikso, Noir, Gruuv et bien d’autres…

En terme de sorties d’EP, Homework alterne entre Exploited Records et Made to play. Chez Jesse Rose, les hollandais sortent deux EP Trumpet Express en septembre 2010et Rally Racquet Club en juin 2011 qui entrent entièrement dans le courant tech house du label. By the way, le titre Rally Racquet Club apparaît dans la Dure Sélection #1 de Dure Vie).

C’est dans le label allemand que le binôme sort son premier EP Fissa Tune durant l’été 2010 : une sortie électro house avec un style dans l’air du temps mais au parfum innovant et puissant.

En Février 2011, Homework se lance dans la disco house contemporaine avec son célèbre EP Hudson Square qui démontre autant de maîtrise des voix et des instruments ( lignes de basse, rythmiques de guitare, synthétiseurs… ) que de subtilité dans l’utilisation de ceux-ci.

Lors de l’année 2012, Tom et Zip ne s’essoufflent pas et sortent un nouvel EP chez Exploited durant l’été. Conversation Piece présente des titres mêlant avec intelligence Deep et Dance.

Le duo a également participé avec leurs edits au projet Black Jukebox, le label dans le label d’Exploited Records pensé et conçu Shir Khan.
Cette évolution logique inscrit parfaitement Homework dans les perspectives d’Exploited qui sont d’être multi-style et hype. Leur réussite leur a permis de décrocher le titre d‘“artiste émergent” de l’année 2011 par Beatport.
Attention, Homework a prévu de sortir son premier album en 2013 chez le label de Shir Khan selon une source sûre.

HOMEWORK : THE SOUND EXPEDITION
After 5 years of activity, the 2 Dj’s from Homework are traveling Europe on a tour that is never ending. They are putting on fire Studio 80 in their birth town Amsterdam, the Panorama bar in Berlin or even Le Transbordeur in Lyon this Saturday 19 January of 2013. The dates are adding themselves, into this no end tour.
Tom Waist and Zip Stolk are the favorites, better the big thing with the creator of Exploited Records Jan Simon Spielberger aka Dj Shir Khan. This one admitted with lot’s of enthusiasm that the duet allowed him to open new directions for his label development that he wanted to unattached from the minimal electro music of the moment, too deep anchored into European clubs.
If the Dutch are so perfectionist and touched by a rare eclecticism, because they both have a background from the disk house Concerto of Amsterdam, it’s very hard to associate them with one kind of music, so much they gravitate between dance music, house and electro.
This way they juggle between the label Made To Play of Jesse Rose, the one of Riva Starr’s Snatch! and more recently the British house 2020 Vision where they just got out with Confession EP, 3 very deep tracks, lead by house vocals and samples. Homework likes to keep a standard at Exploited and get to come out with remixes that are proving themselves at Dikso, Noir, Gruuv and many more.
Concerning their Ep’s, Homework has alternated between Exploited Records and Made To Play. At Jesse Rose’s, the Dutch were announcing their two EP’s Trumpet Express in September 2010 and Rally Racquet Club in June 2011 that are totally part of the tech house wave of the label. (By the way, the track Rally Racquet Club appeared into Dure Sélection #1 of Dure Vie).
It’s in the German label that the binomial came out with their first EP Fissa Tune during summer 2010 : an electro house event with a modern style but a good fragrance of power and innovation.
In February 2011, Homework was introducing itself into contemporary disco house with it’s very famous EP Hudson Square which showed as much control of vocals and instruments ( Bass lines, guitar rhythms, digital piano… ) and many subtlety into the use of those.
During the year 2012, Tom and Zip weren’t taking it slow and came out with a new EP at Exploited Records over the summer. Conversation Piece brought tracks that are mixing with talent deep and dance.
The duo has also participated in Black Jukebox with some edits which is the label in the label Exploited Records designed by Shir Khan.
That logic evolution perfectly get Homework into Exploited perspectives, multi style and hype. Their success, gave them the title « Emergent artist » of 2011 year by Beatport. Beware, Homework planned to release it’s first album in 2013 into Shir Khan label, according to trustful sources.
