Chris Carrier est un pilier français de la musique électronique, une icône underground de cette dernière décennie. En plein focus sur Robsoul Recordings, Dure Vie a choisi de diffuser la vie, la carrière et la magie de ce pionnier aux multiples facettes.
Il est l’un des DJs et producteurs les plus prolifiques et éclectiques de la scène électro et de la danse en France, avec des sets tout autour du monde : Denver, Ibiza, Las Vegas, Miami, Géorgie, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Milan, Londres, Madrid et Paris bien sûr.
Il est le fondateur d’une poignée de labels réputés dans l’industrie et chiffre plus de 100 crédits de productions au compteur.
Les sets du maestro parisien résonnent comme des joyaux aux teintes acidulées et métallisées. Nous parcourons ses territoires inspirés au coeur d’un tourbillon électronique, à l’énergie charnelle et aux vocals taillés au couteau.
Sa voûte musicale est puissante, et il qualifie lui-même son style house et techno de « dark hypnotic ».
Les couloirs de glace à la chaleur cristalline nous ramènent aux années 90 et à Détroit.

Carrier commence à mixer au moment du soulèvement des raves des années 90, avec des DJs tels que 100%Isis, Per Dimitri, Marcello…
Après quelques raves en Hollande, Belgique, Royaume-Uni, il se tourne vers les DJs de Détroit et la techno groove. À l’époque, il expérimente sur son ordinateur Atari et quelques machines analogiques.
Il s’enferme ensuite en studio, isolé du monde, mais accompagné de sa moitié : l’onde musicale électronique.
Puis il rencontre Guillaume la Tortue en 1995 qui avait une belle notoriété sur cette scène techno française. Le label techno Chronobrain apparaît.
Une période difficile survient alors avec le crash du vinyle et l’arrivée du téléchargement illégal. Mais l’histoire en décide autrement : l’étoile de la scène underground devient DJ international.
Il est par la suite revenu à l’ambiance « housy techno » qui était à la mode dans les clubs, et collabore avec son ami Jef K ainsi que la légende de Chicago Chez Damier pour former The Gathering sur Adult Only Records : La track « In My System » envahit les dancefloors du monde entier et simultanément sortent leurs labels Combustible et Taka.
Au début des années 2000 il arrive enfin chez Robsoul Recording fondé par le français Phil Weeks. En 2002, sa rencontre avec Hector Moralez est un tournant, ils s’inspirent tous deux des nineties de San Francisco et s’imaginent un road trip. L’EP « The Acid » sort sur Robsoul en 2003.
Leur album Lotus S7ven aux beats hip-hop, aux samples soul, aux brumes trip débarque sur le label Apollonia fondé par Dan Ghenacia, Shonky et Dyed Soundorom, les éclairs s’annoncent :
Carrier est aujourd’hui à la tête des labels légendaires Adult Only (label house minimaliste underground, avec notamment la track sexy et entraînante « Sure Shot » qui devrait en inspirer plus d’un !), Chronobrain, Catwash (avec Dj W!ld), Combustible, Taka, X86 et Direct Art.
Aussi, ses productions sont surtout diffusées sur des poids lourds tels qu’Apollonia Records (dirigé par ses amis Dan Ghenacia, Shonky et Dyed Soundorom), Freak n’ Chic, Get Physical et à travers la fameuse agence Lola ED (aux côtés de Le Loup notamment)… Toutes les pistes sont inédites.
Dernièrement, on a pu le voir mixer au Festival ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event), qui couvre tout le spectre des sous-genres électroniques et dispose de 300 événements, 2000 DJs dans 80 clubs et salles. Chaque année, cette fête attire plus de 300 000 festivaliers du monde entier. En octobre, Il était invité à mixer à Sanlitun de Pékin dans le quartier des fêtards puis le lendemain à Shanghai.
Pour les retardataires, Dure Vie nous fait grâce d’une soirée forte en adrénaline en invitant Robsoul Recordings pour l’anniversaire des quinze ans du label dans le prestigieux club du Showcase le vendredi 31 janvier. Aux platines le boss Phil Weeks accompagné de Chris Carrier, DJ W!ld et Joss Moog. Dure Vie sera représenté par son dj résident Dusty Fingers en warm up ! La nuit sera exceptionnelle sous le pont Alexandre III et Robsoul y sera pour quelque chose.

He is one of the most prolific, and eclectic DJ and producer from the French electronic scene, performing all over the world: Denver, Ibiza, Las Vegas, Miami, Georgia, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Milan, London, Madrid, and of course Paris, he also is behind the creation of some of the most famous labels, and credited of more than 100 production’s.
The Parisian master sets sounds like gifts, we travel through territories inspired by the heart of electronic, with a warm energy, and sharp knives.
His musical spectrogram is powerful, and his style house and techno self-proclaimed « dark hypnotic ». His mixes are driving us back to the Detroit 90’s.

Carrier started mixing at the start of rave parties in the early 90’s, along with DJ’s such as 100%Isis, Per Dimitri, Marcello…
After a few raves in Deutschland, Belgium, or the UK, he turned to Detroit techno groove. At the time, he experienced on his laptop Atari, and a few analogy machines.
Afterwards, he locked himself up into a studio in order to work on its music and find his way to perfection. Then he met Guillaume la Tortue in 1995, which enjoyed quite a good notoriety into the French techno scene. The techno label Chronobrain will issue from this meeting. Then come a difficult time with the crash of vinyl industry and the multiplication of illegal download.
But none of this will stop Chris from becoming an international DJ He came back afterwards to a more “housy techno” ambiance really trendy in clubs at the time, and collaborates with his friend Jef K, and the Chicago legend Chez Damier to create The Gathering on Adult Only Records.
This reunion will gives birth to two labels Combustible and Taka, along with the world famous track « In My System » At the beginning of the years 2000, he finally arrives into the label Robsoul Recording found by the French Phil Weeks. In 2002, his meeting with Hector Moralez is a breaking point for his career; they both are inspired by the San Francisco 90’s. The EP “The acid” came out on Robsoul in 2003

All tracks new and fresh. Lately we have been able to see him mix at the Festival ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event), offering to the spectators every type’s of electronic music with 300 events, 2000 DJ’s into 80 clubs. Running the turntable Phil Weeks accompany by Chris Carrier, DJ W!ld, and Joss Moog. DJ Dusty Fingers will represent Dure Vie for a crazy warm-up. The night is about to be magical under the bridge Alexander III; I would not miss it for the world.
